HYUNDAI are they any good? CHEVY?
Are Hyundai’s good cars for the tough winters in Upstate New York? How about a Chevy Impala? I have a neighbor that owns one and it looks pretty good but I read a few answers here in this forum and most are negative comments toward the Impala since its American made. Ive been observing what cars are mostyl driven up here and there are so many Fords and Dodge its ridiculous but then you read reviews on how bad American cars are pushing the buyer, like me, to pursue a Honda or a Toyota but unfortunately they are hard to come by up here especially when you have a $4,000 budget or so. Im aiming towards a Honda Accord, it can be a 96-98 the Special Edition but they are hard to find. The dealerships up here are infested with American made cars so Im like what do I do? Id appreciate any suggestions, any tips because Im turning the heat up on the car hunt in 2 weeks. Dodge Neons are like a plague up here..lol..they must be good cars I guess if so many people have them, who knows LOL!!
Hyundais are fine cars.
Chevrolets are fine cars.
In fact, pretty much all cars are good as long as the previous owner was highly meticulous about maintenance.
I own two cars, both American, with very high mileage, and they’re great cars. I know lots of other people with American cars with well over 200,000 miles on them. My friend’s 1998 Corolla, on the other hand, has 80k on it and it’s falling apart, they’re actually very cheaply made cars. (So are Dodge Neons)
But the point isn’t that one country makes cars that are better than another, it’s that what really matters is how well the car’s been taken care of.
My advice is that you find a very honest private party owner who’s got records and has done everything when it needs to be done. And then get a mechanic to look it over and make sure the car’s in good shape mechanically.

BTW, people who go around professing to know about how bad American cars are generally don’t have any idea what they are talking about. I find this ignorance irritating. Please don’t buy into this and assume that only Japanese cars are good.
