How many cook books do you own? Heck, I am a guy and I have six or seven, five of which I do not need and should probably rip out a couple of pages in each and donate them, well, if the Goodwill will take cookbooks with pages missing. You see, there is only one real cookbook that I need, just one for me:
“The Original New York Times Cookbook” by Craig Claiborne – 1961
“The enduring classic – over one million copies sold” says the New York Times as they promote this book that they themselves have published as they attempt to sell more.
The book is broken into chapters such as: “Appetizers, Soups, Meats, Poultry, Fish, Eggs, Cheese, Rice, Pasta, Vegetables, Salads, Breads, Relishes and Preserves, Desserts, Wine and Beverages, Spices, and lastly, Tabulations and Measurements. This is indeed, the ultimate cookbook and even if the New York Times toots their own horn in their book reviews of a book they themselves published, this time it is forgiven, as they are correct.
You see, Rich or Poor, young or old, black or white this is one cook book that has everything in it, and exactly what you want. The recipes are completely simple and straight forward, nothing too complicated and anyone, hey, including me can make a dish using this book. I especially liked the tuna casserole and the meatloaf dishes, wow, to die for. Of course, with 717 pages and 1500 recipes, I bet you find that perfect meal somewhere between the hard back covers.
