new york to boston chinatown bus

How I can get from New York to Providence, not Amtrak or Greyhound?
I want to visit a friend in Providence next weekend. Amtrak Greyhound is $ 150 round trip and often also many stops (and their buses are smelly ..) I know I can take the bus from Boston's Chinatown after go to Providence, but that seems to be surpassing the mark. Is there anyone familiar with Metro North and other transit lines suburbs of Connecticut and Rhode Island? I think it must be a way to do it taking all trains, but I need some advice.
By train, Amtrak came to New Haven and east of the coastline runs of this from there … but not all the way to Providence. By Bus Peter Pan Bonanza goes to Providence could. You can leave it as often as Greyhound, however.
