nyc entertainment jobs
What is the best place in the southeast region (NC, SC, GA, FL, AL, MS, LA, TN) to raise a family?

* We’ve 2 young daughters; need good schools
* Would like a diverse community; coming from NYC it’s something we’ve grown to really appreciate.
* Would like lots of recreational/ entertainment opportunities (parks, museums, zoos, sporting events, music, etc.)
* Doesn’t have to be a big city, just close enough to get to one if we wanted to.
* Crime should be relatively low… we want to keep our babies safe.
* Hopefully, the people are friendly and helpful with a strong sense of community.
* Good job market
* Not too bad for allergies… the baby has bad allergies.
* Relatively low cost of living (now wouldn’t that be lovely?)

Thanks so much for your help! We are really at a lost for where to even begin looking. Any help at all is greatly appreciated! I’m originally from New Orleans and loved the big city with a small town feel of it. Looking forward to getting back South.

I’ve traveled a lot, but the only place I’ve ever lived is Central Florida. I’m pretty much anti-Florida b/c I’m sick of the tourist attractions, the population and housing boom, and all of the out-of-state residents. Please don’t think I’m grumpy… it’s just that I like wide open spaces… I would prefer the mountains of NC or TN myself. I would never survive in NYC!

However, Florida is a great place to live in reference to everything you’re looking for. Everything is within 30-45 minutes of ANYWHERE in Central Florida, and it’s a buyer’s market here right now. The cost of living is low (as are wages) compared to NYC, but my friends from NY say it balances out perfectly.

There’s a lot of stuff to do, especially with young kids. The schools are mostly very good, there is a lot of cultural diversity, and you can find nice communities within easy commutes to big city jobs.

The allergy seasons are a little rough, due to that there is one season in Florida… Summer. I’ve never had allergies EVER, but I did this past summer. I think that was nationwide, though. If you grew up in New Orleans, you should be used to our climate here… it’s pretty much the same.

Welcome back to Dixie!
