How to see New York in a day with the family?

We will be visiting Grand Central on Saturday morning. I have not been in New York long, long time. You want to give my children a taste of the big city, like my grandparents, natives of New York themselves, when I was your age. Would you show me some of the sites of trademarks, including the Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty. So maybe Rockefeller Center. and Central Park, Times Square, the site of the WTC, etc. Not necessarily interested in purchasing. I know it's a huge city and not all sites are close easily. What is the best way to see some of the most important to get a good impression of the city? Only the day and have to take the train back to Grand Central CT at night. We intend to do a lot walking and public use transportation. How start?

If walking to all these places, it takes about 2 hours and 40 minutes for transport. Now, they do not understand how much time you spend in each destination. First, I would go to Central Park. Only about a mile from Grand Central Station and you can get some Google Maps directions. (List or print them out before leaving for New York). Next, travel to Central Park to Times Square. This is only a 20 minute walk from Central Park. Then walk from Times Square to the Empire State Building. This is a walk of 15 minutes. (Remember to consult all these addresses in Google Maps before you go!) From Empire State Building, near Rockefeller Center. It was another 20 minutes on foot. Rockefeller Center nearest metro station take the World Financial Center to buy tickets for the Statue of Freedom. You can get subway directions http://www.hopstop.com/?city=newyork they will tell you which trains to take. If you are not familiar with Google Maps go to maps.google.com Get directions Click on the left side. Click the icon for walking directions. Enter your destination and directions. Be sure to print or write before leaving them. Hope you have a wonderful time in the city and you can see everything you want to see. Be careful! : D
