The federal bailout has allocated 150 billion dollars to education – a commitment of two years which would double current funding for local schools. Therefore, it would be premature to revise the significant achievements in education, such as new hires and new investments could happen this summer, we would expect see at least one static image in the light of the recent financial boost. But we see the opposite: schools are in a frenzy to keep their doors open, teachers lose their jobs, and special projects eliminated.

Why, then, the educational system seems far from being static, if there is so much free money pumped into the system by the federal government? Why is California, New York, Pennsylvania and Arizona announced significant decrease in the cost of education, Despite the benefits of a ransom of reduced funding for education? Many states have followed. In the middle of the boldest federal commitment to education since the Second World War, educators are running for hills instead of celebrating.

The answer is as clear as it is shocking: the funding of local education gone. The economic crisis has decimated the state's finances, made the state budget for education closer to zero. The result is that money is unable to support the rescue financing of studies, and should be used instead to temporarily stop the bleeding. The most recent proposed budget of Pennsylvania are extreme, calling for the replacement of all local funds for education with funding from the federal bailout. Unfortunately, these proposals should not surprise: governments locals have more immediate needs, and all money will be used to meet these needs. The formal education funding is reallocated to many other programs not receiving state rescue aid, including infrastructure initiatives, ministries of justice, and a myriad of specialized programs.

It is difficult be too perturbed by this seem unfair to use bailout money for education in the light of these needs "urgent. The real problem is what happens the power structure in American education: that local financing is replaced by federal funds, state governments are taking control of their policies education for the federal government, a change of ownership that could deprive their local schools control over the allocation of curriculum and resource allocation. Sea or not this change of power is desirable, it is an open discussion and talking heads to casual readers, but its consequences can not be ignored. Are we ready for an education system more centralized? Are we prepared for the federal government to dictate the policy of education? Should we be happy with most major national bureaucracy involved in our schools? Fire away.
