Kid friendly hotels in NYC- and must see’s with toddler?

I’m traveling to NYC from CA with my DH and 21 month old a few days before Christmas. We’re flying in on a Friday and need a Toddler friendly hotel. We’ll be leaving on Sunday to drive to CT so I’d like to plan on going to a couple of “must-see’s”. My husband has never been to the city and I’ve never been with a child. Any help with either question would be much appreciated.

I’m not a hotel connoisseur but must sees include FAO Schwarz (particularly for the baby), Macy’s, Grand Central Terminal (cool laser light show and model train), the Rockefelller Center christmas tree, and Times Square. Take a walk down 5th Avenue because they have the most elaborate decorations.
